Honda Activa 6G vs TVS Jupiter: Which Scooter Makes More Sense in India?

Overview

The Honda Activa 6G and TVS Jupiter are two of India's most popular 110cc automatic scooters, priced around ₹78,500 and ₹74,000 ex-showroom respectively. This comparison looks past the spec sheet at what buyers actually pay and live with: Delhi on-road prices, real-world mileage, monthly fuel costs at ₹103 a litre, and EMI on a 60-month loan. It also covers engine response, ride quality, boot space, service costs and resale value, so families choosing a daily scooter this festive season know exactly where each one wins.

The Honda Activa 6G vs TVS Jupiter question in India comes down to about ₹4,500 at the showroom. The Activa 6G starts around ₹78,500 ex-showroom and the Jupiter 110 around ₹74,000. Both chase the same buyer: a family that wants one automatic scooter for school runs, office commutes and Sunday market trips. Diwali is four weeks away, which is when most of these bookings happen.

Honda Activa 6G vs TVS Jupiter: Which One Should You Buy?

The cheaper scooter is not automatically the cheaper one to own, and the bigger badge is not automatically the better ride. Add RTO, insurance and handling charges, and the Activa 6G lands near ₹88,000-₹90,000 on-road in Delhi, while the Jupiter sits around ₹84,000-₹86,000. Treat both as expected figures, since dealer add-ons can move them by a few thousand either way. The top variants of both, the Activa H-Smart and the Jupiter Special Edition, cross ₹87,000 ex-showroom. Pick your variant first, then compare prices.

The Jupiter pulls harder off the line

The Jupiter's 113.3cc engine makes roughly 8 PS at 6,500 rpm and 9.8 Nm with its iGO assist switched on. The Activa 6G's 109.51cc motor makes around 7.9 PS at 8,000 rpm and about 9 Nm. On paper the two look like twins. The rpm gap tells the real story: the Jupiter reaches peak power 1,500 rpm earlier, so it works at lower revs in stop-go traffic. iGO assist adds a short torque boost from the starter-generator when you open the throttle. You feel it in the first ten metres from a red light, especially with a pillion on board.

The Activa answers with refinement. Its silent-start system and smooth idle are still the benchmark in this segment, and the engine hums rather than buzzes at 50 km/h.

What the monthly fuel bill really looks like

Autocar India lists the Jupiter's ARAI figure at 53.84 kmpl, and the Activa is generally rated slightly better on paper. Real roads rarely cooperate. In city use, a likely range is around 50 kmpl for the Activa and 47 kmpl for the Jupiter. Take a commuter doing 30 km a day, or 900 km a month, with petrol at ₹103 a litre. The Activa burns about 18 litres, which costs ₹1,854. The Jupiter burns about 19 litres, costing ₹1,972. The Activa saves you roughly ₹120 a month. That is real money, but it is not a deciding factor.

The EMI test: a ₹4,000 gap that nearly disappears

Finance both at 20% down, 60 months and 11% interest. Assume the Activa at ₹89,000 on-road and the Jupiter at ₹85,000. The Activa needs about ₹17,800 down and an EMI near ₹1,548. The Jupiter needs about ₹17,000 down and an EMI near ₹1,479. The Jupiter saves you roughly ₹70 a month on the loan.

Now add the fuel. The Activa costs about ₹3,402 a month for EMI plus petrol, and the Jupiter about ₹3,451. The gap is under ₹50. The Jupiter's lower sticker price gets eaten by its thirstier real-world mileage, so the price difference should not decide this for you.

Ride, boot space and the details that decide it

Look at the wheels. The Jupiter runs a 12-inch rear wheel, while the Activa's rear is 10-inch. On a pothole-heavy stretch of a Delhi service road, the Jupiter settles faster and feels less nervous over broken tarmac. Higher-spec Jupiters also offer a front disc brake, where the Activa 6G makes do with drums and a combined braking system.

Storage is the other lopsided number. The Jupiter's roughly 33-litre underseat compartment takes a full-face helmet and a laptop bag. The Activa's roughly 18 litres takes the helmet, and not much else. If your scooter doubles as a grocery hauler, that gap decides it.

The Activa's counter is the H-Smart trim. It adds a smart key and Honda's RoadSync connectivity, which the Jupiter's mid-range trims do not match.

Service, resale and the 10,000 km mark

Honda's service network is the widest in Indian two-wheelers, and that matters most outside metros. In a Tier-3 town, finding an authorised Honda workshop is usually easier than finding a TVS one. At 10,000 km, expect likely service spends of ₹3,500-₹4,500 on either scooter across routine visits and oil changes. The difference between them is small.

Resale is the Activa's strongest argument. Used-scooter buyers ask for it by name, and it traditionally holds value better. If you swap scooters every four years, that counts for more than any spec on this page. Buyers wanting something bigger can read Drivio's Activa 125 and TVS Ntorq 125 coverage.

Verdict: buy the Jupiter, unless resale rules your decision

In the Honda Activa 6G vs TVS Jupiter contest, the Jupiter wins for most Indian families. It is stronger from a standstill, more comfortable on bad roads, and carries almost twice the luggage, all for less money at the showroom. The cost over a month works out to about the same as the Activa once you add fuel. The Activa is the right call only if you plan to sell within three years, or if you live somewhere a Honda service centre is the only workshop within 20 km.

The TVS Jupiter wins this comparison for most Indian families. It is stronger off the line, rides rough roads better and carries roughly 33 litres under the seat against the Activa 6G's 18. The Activa saves about ₹120 a month on petrol, but once EMI and fuel are added, the two cost within ₹50 of each other. Choose the Activa only if resale value or a wider Honda service network matters more. Otherwise, the Jupiter is the smarter buy at around ₹74,000 ex-showroom.
